GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS TO
EFY MAGAZINE
1. Ensure
that the subject of the article is of general interest to electronics
enthusiasts and professionals.
2. Send
the manuscript by e-mail or through 8.9cm (3.5-inch) floppies using MS-Word,
WordPad, Write, Notepad, Text, in files not exceeding 500 kB.
3. Typed
manuscripts in double-spacing on one side of paper are also acceptable. All
pages of the manuscript should bear the author’s initials while the last page
should carry the author’s full signatures, name, address, and date.
4. The
authors should send their brief bio-data and passport-size photograph with
their manuscripts, at least when they are writing for the first time for
Electronics For You.
5. Photographs
and illustrations, together with their captions (if any) to go with the
article, are appreciated as these make the article attractive and more
readable.
6. Authors/contributors
of Circuit Ideas and Construction articles are expected to test the circuits
before sending and keep a prototype of the project handy for dispatch to EFY if
requested. The author may indicate the cost of the prototype while forwarding
it so that EFY, at its discretion, may either return the prototype or reimburse
its cost suitably.
7. Length
of the manuscript should not exceed 12 typed sheets or 1500 words including
equivalent space for illustrations. If longer, it should be possible to
serialise it in two or more parts.
8. The
authors should ensure proper use of digit ‘1’ and letter ‘I’ and also of digit
‘0’ and the letter ‘O’. Use non-standard letters (Greek characters,
mathematical symbols, etc) consistently throughout the text and make a list of
such characters with a lexicon of what they represent.
9. Avoid
use of rare symbols and equations and present the manuscript in a simplified
form, without sacrificing its quality and content, so that it can be understood
by a larger cross-section of the readers.
10. The
illustrations must be neat and clean, even if drawn by hand.
11. Tables
should bear a short descriptive title and table columns should bear headings.
12. Elaborate
the abbreviations used as far as possible.
13. Give
appropriate headings to different sections, sub-sections, and sub-sub-sections
of the article.
14. The
manuscript for an article should not be a ‘copy’ of some other published work,
although it cannot always be totally original or a piece of author’s own
research work. However, if a dispute or doubt does come up at any stage, the
author should be able to defend himself against infringement of copyright, etc.
15. Use
only the Metric system of measurement in text.
16. The
Editor of EFY, at his sole discretion, reserves the right to suitably edit the
articles and diagrams as well as to modify circuit diagrams wherever he finds
such changes necessary. All efforts are made to inform the contributors about
such changes before publishing their articles. However, at times, due to postal
delays or incomplete address given by the author or paucity of time, it may not
be possible to wait for their concurrence.
17. The authors must note and
carry out the requisite corrections in the edited articles sent for their
perusal before printing and return these within 24 hours of receipt as the
articles are to be sent to the press. Corrections received late cannot be
incorporated.
18.
For Computer Software articles, the
software source code as well as executable files along with the printout of the
program and end results, wherever possible or applicable, would be appreciated
through e-mail or on a 8.9cm (3.5-inch) floppy.
19.
The authors are generally paid
honorarium after publication of their articles. The honorarium amount is decided by the editor(s); it is not
negotiable. So those expecting a
certain minimum) amount must inform the Editor(s) while sending manuscripts for
the article.
20. After
publication in the magazine the article can be reused in any form without, of
course, changing its basic content. If any contributor does not wish to abide
by this condition, he must inform the Editor before the publication of his
article in the magazine.
Desired
Text Arrangement for Construction Projects (Not for Circuit Ideas) :
(a) Introductory
part of the article should provide a bird’s eye view of the entire matter
covered in the article including its practical utility.
(b) Description
of the circuit’s (or system’s) working.
(c) Full
construction details, preferably with PCB pattern, components layout,
chassis/cabinet details, and the prototype’s photographs. However, all these
are not essential; so provide as much as you can and the rest will be taken
care of by EFY.
(d) Setting
up, Installation, Calibration, Testing Procedures, and Precautions.
