CBD and Drug Prescriptions: Do They Interact?

0 POSTS 0 COMMENTS
CBD is a super popular supplement for seniors. However, there is a “dark side” to this hemp-derived cannabinoid. No, CBD won’t get you high like THC! However, if you take CBD at the wrong time, it could have harmful side effects.
Recent research suggests CBD has a complex relationship with other medications. So, if you’re already on a strict prescription schedule, adding CBD to your life could alter the effectiveness of your daily pills. In worst-case scenarios, mixing CBD with your prescribed drugs could cause a life-threatening reaction.
Although CBD is generally well-tolerated by seniors, customers must understand this supplement could interact with commonly prescribed medications. For your safety, we recommend speaking with a medical doctor before using CBD as a natural alternative for pain, anxiety, or sleep health.
What Drugs Does CBD Interact With?
Scientists continue to evaluate the prescription drugs CBD could interact with. However, Harvard recently compiled a list of the most dangerous medications to take with CBD. Each of the medicines below seems to have a higher susceptibility to react negatively when paired with CBD:
Warfarin Amiodarone Levothyroxine Clobazam Valproate Lamotrigine
When you take CBD with any of these medications, it seems to provoke serious side effects. Please never use CBD oil with any of the above drugs if you don’t have the express consent of a professional doctor.
It’s also worth mentioning Penn State researchers identified over 135 medications that could provoke bad reactions with CBD or THC. Unfortunately, this trial focused on medical marijuana, so it’s hard to separate out the CBD drug reactions. Still, these findings should serve as a warning that any prescription medication could have adverse reactions with cannabinoids like CBD.
Does CBD Have Side Effects When Taken On Its Own?
Let’s say you’re not taking any prescription medications. Does that mean CBD could still have side effects?
In most cases, if you’re healthy and you take the recommended dose of CBD oil, you shouldn’t experience an adverse reaction. However, just because most people have a positive experience with CBD doesn’t mean side effects are impossible.
Generally, the side effects related to straight CBD oil are relatively mild and include one of the following:
Nausea  Fatigue  Digestive issues (e.g., constipation)   Headaches
However, it’s rare for low doses of CBD to trigger significant side effects. Indeed, most people who have bad reactions to CBD take incredibly high doses.
Another common reason you could experience CBD’s side effects is that you’re using an inferior product. If you use CBD oil that doesn’t come with third-party lab results, there’s no way of knowing if there’s THC, heavy metals, or pesticides in your product.
Blue Ribbon Hemp always sends our CBD oils, topicals, and oral strips to high-quality labs for thorough screenings. We also promise to remove all THC from our broad-spectrum hemp extracts. For more info on our detailed lab reports, be sure to visit this page.
Taking Prescriptions? Please Speak With A Physician Before Trying CBD!
As much as we love hemp extract, we recognize that CBD isn’t a prescription medication alternative. Yes, CBD has many impressive healing properties, but it’s no replacement for professional medical care. Also, since CBD could trigger adverse reactions when paired with certain drugs, you must speak with a medical professional before incorporating Blue Ribbon Hemp products into your life.
If you want to take advantage of the benefits of CBD oil, we’d recommend scheduling an appointment with your doctor. Since more seniors are taking CBD nowadays, many physicians know proper CBD timing and dosing. Always review any medications you’re currently on and ask how to safely use CBD in your daily schedule.
