TLD6098 Allows Full Control of LED Headlamps Without a Microcontroller

Automotive Industry is shifting toward electric vehicles (EV), and to increase the drivable distance in a single charge the EV manufacturers try to save every single watt of energy, thus LED headlamps are becoming prevalent due to their inherent advantages. But to control the LED lamp a microcontroller is used and a voltage supply to achieve the patterns or animations used by the car manufacturers.

Infineon Technologies has announced the release of Litix TLD6098-2ES, a dual-channel, DC-DC controller. This controller is Infineon’s first product capable of driving a full LED headlamp without the requirement of a microcontroller. The TLD6098 can operate the four standard LED front light functions which include: High Beam (HB), Low Beam (LB), Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and Turn Signal (TURN). Furthermore, the LITIX Power products can be used as a voltage supply which is used for controlling the animation in exterior LED lighting. The controller can work with a wide input voltage range of 4.5 V to 60 V.

The TLD6098 has a multi-topology controller which includes buck, boost, Sepic and flyback topologies. It also features integrated PMOS gate drivers that provide high-side load disconnection to dim the LED brightness and ensure adequate system reliability. To improve the EMC performance, an integrated spread spectrum modulator is used. Each channel of TLD6098-2ES offers both analogue and PWM dimming for precise LED brightness control.
