Coherent Corp, a global photonics company, has introduced the Axon FL, a fibre coupling module designed for the Axon 920 TPC ultrafast femtosecond laser. It allows simple switching between free-space and fiber-coupled outputs.

With this flexibility, researchers can use the same laser for multiple applications, including detailed studies of neural circuits and cellular activity deep within live tissues. The Axon FL delivers clean femtosecond pulses through standard FC/PC connectors and features high-contrast power control and dynamic group delay dispersion (GDD) tuning for precise optimisation.

Researchers working with Mini2P microscopy, which is gaining popularity for brain imaging in freely moving animals, can now easily integrate fibre delivery without needing a complete system upgrade. The Axon FL is sold as an add-on, making it a cost-effective choice for existing users. Its strong compatibility and precision alignment set a new performance standard for fibre-coupled lasers in neuroscience.
