A power module converts AC to DC, supports remote control and parallel use, and works in systems, lighting setups, and places with limited cooling.

TDK Corporation has introduced the TDK-Lambda PFE1500FB, a 1500 W AC-DC power module designed for industrial, lighting, and building automation systems. The third-generation unit operates across a wide 85 to 305 Vac input range and supports 277 Vac nominal input, allowing use in standard industrial power setups.
The module is built for environments where cooling is limited. It uses a metal baseplate, making it suitable for sealed outdoor enclosures or liquid-cooled systems where convection or forced air is not available. A five-sided case design helps manage heat and reduce radiated EMI.
It includes a PMBus interface with read/write capability for remote monitoring and control. Users can adjust output voltage, overvoltage, overcurrent, and undervoltage settings. For higher output current, multiple modules can be connected in parallel using droop mode current sharing, which can also be programmed through PMBus. Other functions include remote on/off control, a power good signal, and a 9.5–14 V, 200 mA auxiliary output.
The output voltage can be set between 38.4 and 57.6 V. Typical efficiency reaches 92% at 230 Vac input. No-load power consumption is 2 W when the output is disabled.
Main applications include test and measurement equipment, semiconductor fabrication systems, LED displays, lasers, and RF power amplifiers.
Some of the key features of the TDK-Lambda PFE1500FB include:
- 92 % efficiency (typical)
- 85 to 305 Vac input
- 50/60/400Hz Input Line Frequency
- PMBus communications interface for remote programming and monitoring
- The module measures 157.2 × 89.9 × 15.2 mm and weighs 540 g.
It meets IEC/UL/CSA/EN62368-1 safety standards and carries CE and UKCA markings for Low Voltage, EMC, and RoHS directives. The unit complies with EN55032-A with external filtering and meets IEC 61000-4 immunity standards. Isolation ratings are 3000 Vac (input to output), 2500 Vac (input to ground), and 1500 Vdc (output to ground). The series comes with a three-year warranty.
