Featuring a compact SMD footprint, 14 kA interrupting rating, and support for currents up to 200 A, the Series is designed for AI servers, PDUs, PSUs, battery backup units, and renewable energy systems.

Littelfuse has expanded its circuit protection portfolio with the introduction of the NANO² Surface-Mount 708 Series Fuse, a compact overcurrent protection device designed for next-generation 48 VDC power architectures used in AI servers, hyperscale data centres, and high-density power systems. The 708 Series is claimed to be the company’s first surface-mount fuse to provide an interrupting rating of 14 kA at 80 VDC, enabling protection against high fault currents in demanding power environments.
As AI workloads drive increasing power requirements across data center infrastructure, designers face challenges in protecting high-current circuits while minimizing board space. Traditional solutions often rely on larger through-hole or bolt-down fuses that require manual installation. The 708 Series addresses these limitations by combining high-current handling capability with a compact surface-mount package suitable for automated manufacturing processes.
The key features are:
- 14,000 A interrupting rating at 80 VDC for high-fault-current environments
- Current ratings available from 60 A to 200 A
- Surface-mount package supports automated pick-and-place assembly
- High pulse-withstand capability for demanding power architectures
- Designed for 48 VDC systems requiring compliance with global safety standards
The fuse supports current ratings ranging from 60 A to 200 A, allowing it to protect power distribution circuits exposed to significant fault currents. Its high interrupting capability enables safe circuit interruption without damaging adjacent components, an increasingly important requirement in AI server clusters and high-density computing platforms.
Designed for automated pick-and-place assembly, the surface-mount form factor helps manufacturers streamline production, reduce labor-intensive installation steps, and improve overall manufacturing efficiency. The compact footprint also supports higher board-density designs where space optimization is critical.
Key features of the NANO² 708 Series Fuse include a 14,000 A interrupting rating at 80 VDC, high pulse resistance, support for demanding high-current applications, and compliance with global safety standards. These characteristics make the device suitable for use in power distribution units (PDUs), power supply units (PSUs), battery backup units (BBUs), and power shelves deployed in modern data center environments.
Beyond data centers, the fuse can also be used in renewable energy systems and battery management systems (BMS) that require compact, high-power circuit protection. The 708 Series complements Littelfuse’s existing portfolio of 48 V protection products, including the 456, 871, and 881 fuse families, providing designers with an alternative to legacy cartridge, through-hole, and bolt-down protection solutions.
