I need to replace a connector on a DC power adaptor for a radio. How is the diameter of the connector measured – is it internal (across the hole) or external (across the insulating ring)?

Commonly, for measuring the diameter of a DC power connector, you have to measure the external diameter across the insulating ring. The internal diameter (across the hole) is typically smaller and is less relevant when determining compatibility with your device.

So replacing the connector on your DC power adapter for the radio, you should measure the external diameter across the insulating ring.
