Made-in-India Module Adds Wi-Fi to IoT Devices

A Wi-Fi module lets camera and IoT makers add wireless connectivity through USB without changing their existing hardware.

Fabless chip design startup IndieSemiC has launched the ISC-8188-B, a Made-in-India Wi-Fi module for IP cameras, CCTV and surveillance systems, smart doorbells, and other connected vision devices. Camera manufacturers, surveillance equipment makers, and IoT developers can use the module to add wireless connectivity to their products and transmit video, sensor, and other device data over a Wi-Fi network.

The module works as a USB-to-Wi-Fi bridge, allowing manufacturers to add Wi-Fi through a standard USB 2.0 connection without redesigning the main hardware of an existing product. This can enable a wired camera or other connected device design to communicate over a wireless network.

The ISC-8188-B is designed and developed in India and complies with STQC (Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification) requirements. This allows Indian OEMs to source the wireless connectivity component locally. The module includes built-in Wi-Fi security and supports both external and integrated antennas.

For example, IP camera makers can use the module to send captured video and other data over Wi-Fi, while smart doorbell manufacturers can use it to connect their devices to a home network. Developers of other vision-based IoT products can similarly use the module when their devices need wireless data connectivity through a USB interface.

Designed for production-line integration, the module is targeted at manufacturers that want to add Wi-Fi connectivity without developing the wireless portion of the product from scratch.

“Camera and vision devices in India are becoming more capable, but many still depend on imported modules for something as basic as Wi-Fi connectivity,” said Nikul Shah, Founder and CEO, IndieSemiC. “With the ISC-8188-B, we wanted to give Indian camera and IoT manufacturers a wireless module that is designed here, easy to integrate, and ready for their production lines from day one.”

The ISC-8188-B expands IndieSemiC’s wireless connectivity portfolio across Wi-Fi, BLE, and LoRa for camera, IoT, and embedded electronics applications. Samples are now available for OEM evaluation.
