RF Engineer At Corning

The Wireless Engineering Team is responsible for providing RF Designs to support Corning Wireless In-Building solutions such as the Corning Small Cell, SpiderCloud ERAN Legacy product lines, Corning ONE DAS, Everon 6000, 6200, and Mobile Access Legacy DAS product lines.

The RF Engineer will be responsible for planning and implementation of Wireless in-building designs. Role will support Wireless Commercial Team in both pre-sales and post-sales support.

This will include working with Solution Engineers to confirm customer design requirements, RF Designs and RF Design reviews.

In this role, candidates may be expected to attend site surveys, develop design requirements and specifications, supervise the creation of DAS and small cell designs (iBwave tool) with propagation plots, and prepare technical proposals. He/she will be responsible for both performing iBwave designs as well as setting standards for iBwave designs and reviewing external iBwave designs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Quality control of designs for Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and Small Cells for all wireless opportunities from third party vendors and customers using iBwave software
  • Create DAS and Small Cell systems designs using iBwave software and related modules with propagation plots
  • Develop standards and criteria for iBwave designs for Corning equipment
  • Define RF requirements based on processed macro benchmark data
  • Attend site surveys as required
  • Review/Validate CW testing, as necessary
  • Create/customize RF Link Budgets
  • Develop bill of materials and design proposals
  • Provide technical support for CMA DAS and RF related questions related to designs
  • Assist with preparing technical responses as needed
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
  • Work cross-functionally to solve problems and implement changes while successfully managing the relationship with the clients and all other stakeholders
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Update design trackers and/or provide data to complete the required updates daily
  • Evaluate the outcomes of the project as established during the planning phase
  • Effectively collaborate with others in open and productive dialogues Initiative
  • Recommend changes or policies to increase department effectiveness and customer satisfaction
  • Recognize and act on new opportunities while maintaining focus on the company goals, customer accounts and program/project objectives
  • Proven ability to work in a fast paced, 24×7 availability environment

Technical Skills Required (All Positions)

  • Relevant Industry Experience
  • Proven technical background, preferably in the fields of telecommunications or engineering
  • Fiber optic knowledge, experience a plus
  • Structured cabling familiarity
  • Proven working experience creating designs using iBwave software within the wireless telecommunications sector
  • Working experience in LTE or UMTS wireless networks
  • Strong technical skills in data equipment such as routers, switches, and wireless LAN; wireless Core; practical cabling standards
  • Solid technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in wireless networks and PoE+ LANs

Technical/Software Skills (All Positions)

  • Must be able to work from a remote/home office location to manage a team of remote engineers spread across the U.S.
  • Hands on experience and proficiency in iBwave design software
  • iBwave design level 2 certification or higher
  • Working knowledge of RF propagation theory, link budgets, antennas, amplifiers, and transmission lines • Previous iBwave experience with DAS and small cell design (any vendor/OEM)
  • Strong understanding of Wireless technologies and current trends with practical knowledge of Cellular networks, protocols, and systems
  • Desire to learn new products and technologies
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, Procore and Box Soft Skills Required (All Positions)
  • Ability to work independently/autonomously and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
  • Quick learner with excellent written & verbal communication and problem-solving skills
  • Solid organizational skills with attention to detail, multi-task, and cope with deadlines
  • Experience with field deployments, technology acceptance processes, and support services
  • Must be a strong problem solver, self-motivated, organized, and analytical
  • Passionate about improving our customers’ experience and relationship
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with Sr. Management and business critical customers
  • Positive attitude while working among multi-functional teams

Desired/Preferred Skill

  • Five or more years related wireless design experience and/or training
  • Experience with designing Corning DAS and Small Cell products
  • iBwave Design Level 3 Certification
  • Working knowledge of iBwave, AutoCAD, and VISIO
  • Superior presentation skills Academics
  • BSEE or equivalent with a focus on wireless networks or telecommunications
