Still using Modbus devices? See how data can reach the cloud, stay available during outages, and support monitoring without replacing equipment.

The Modbus Gateway MBGWY00x from Calixto Systems is designed to connect Modbus Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) and Modbus Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) devices with cloud platforms, enabling monitoring and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications. The gateway allows industries to collect data from existing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), sensors, energy meters, and other field devices and integrate them with cloud-based analytics and monitoring systems without replacing installed equipment.
Supporting both Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP communication, the gateway acts as a bridge between operational technology and cloud infrastructure. It can connect up to 96 Modbus devices and transfer data using protocols such as Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT/S) and Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTP/S), making it suitable for applications that require centralized monitoring and data analysis.
One of the features of the gateway is its onboard data-logging capability. If network connectivity is lost, operational data is stored locally and synchronized when communication is restored. This helps maintain data continuity in industrial environments where access to process data is required.
The gateway includes dual isolated Recommended Standard 485 (RS485) interfaces for Modbus RTU communication and a 10/100 Megabits per second (Mbps) Ethernet interface for Modbus TCP connectivity. An optional Fourth Generation Long-Term Evolution (4G LTE) connection with Second Generation (2G) fallback enables deployment in locations where wired network access may not be available. Additional support for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) simplifies integration with industrial networks.
Configuration is handled through a web-based interface, reducing setup time and simplifying device management. The DIN-rail-mounted unit operates from a 12/24 Volts Direct Current (VDC) power supply and is intended for use in manufacturing, energy management, utility monitoring, building automation, and equipment supervision.
As industries continue to connect legacy equipment with cloud-based systems, gateways such as the MBGWY00x provide a way to extend the life of existing Modbus installations while enabling access to monitoring, analytics, and Industrial Internet of Things capabilities.
