Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Unveils Total Power Solution for Next-Gen Intel Panther Lake and Wildcat Lake Platforms

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited has introduced a new set of digital multiphase controllers—AOZ71049QI, AOZ71149QI, and AOZ71146QI—targeted at Intel IMVP9.3 Vcore power delivery for next-generation mobile platforms such as Intel Panther Lake and Wildcat Lake. Designed as 4-rail controllers, they are intended to work alongside AOS DrMOS and Smart Power Stage (SPS) devices to form a complete CPU power solution optimized for performance-per-watt and compact laptop designs.

The key value of this controller family is its hybrid control approach. Built on AOS’s Advanced Transient Modulation (A2TM) architecture, the design blends digital configurability with analog-style efficiency using variable-frequency hysteretic peak-current mode control and phase-current sensing. This enables fast transient response while maintaining tight current balance under both dynamic and steady-state conditions. Low quiescent power across Intel IMVP 9.3 operating states further improves efficiency, directly contributing to longer battery life in mobile systems.

In implementation, the solution is designed to reduce system complexity and tuning effort. Configuration is handled through a GUI interface and stored in Multi-Time Programmable (MTP) memory, eliminating repeated hardware rework during optimization and helping reduce overall BOM cost.

Performance and layout efficiency are further enhanced when paired with the AOZ52986QI Smart Power Stage. Its compact 3×4 QFN package and symmetrical pinout simplify PCB routing, while reducing parasitic inductance by about 5%, improving both electrical and thermal behavior in dense notebook designs.

“The biggest hurdle for SoC power in mobile applications is balancing performance with power consumption,” said Wayne Lee, Power IC Product Marketing Director at AOS. “Our AOZ71049 series provides a novel control scheme that meets Intel’s most stringent requirements while delivering the lowest quiescent power in the industry. For the end user, this translates to 30 to 60 minutes of additional battery life compared to competing solutions.”
