Vishay Intertechnology has expanded its portfolio of Automotive Grade common mode chokes with four new surface-mount devices designed to reduce power losses, support higher currents, and save board space.

The new devices are the Vishay Dale ICM5050-A, ICM6050-A, IFLN-1210BE-A, and IFLN-1812CZ-A. They combine low DC resistance (DCR) with high current capability and impedance for applications that require noise suppression and filtering.

The four devices are AEC-Q200 qualified and support operation at temperatures of up to +150°C. They are designed for use in DC/DC power supplies, LCDs, lighting drivers, in-vehicle Ethernet networks, and battery-powered devices.

The devices offer DCR values from 0.4 mΩ to 12 mΩ. By comparison, typical toroidal common mode chokes have a DCR of about 23 mΩ. The lower DCR of the new devices helps reduce power losses and increase efficiency in these applications.

The ICM5050-A and ICM6050-A are wirewound ferrite common mode chokes designed for high-current applications. The ICM5050-A supports current ratings of up to 11 A in a 5050 case size, while the ICM6050-A supports up to 14 A in a 6050 case size.

The ICM5050-A measures 12.0 mm × 11.0 mm × 6.0 mm, while the ICM6050-A measures 15.0 mm × 13.0 mm × 6.0 mm. Their footprints allow them to replace larger toroidal common-mode chokes in some applications. Typical toroidal devices measure about 19 mm × 30 mm × 28 mm, so the new components can reduce the board space required for common-mode filtering.

The IFLN-1210BE-A and IFLN-1812CZ-A are ferrite common-mode chokes with precision winding. They provide common-mode impedance of up to 11 kΩ at 100 MHz and are available in 1210 and 1812 case sizes.

These devices are designed to suppress EMI noise in applications such as CAN and LAN networks and automotive DC/DC converters. Their sizes make them suitable for applications where PCB space is limited.

All four devices are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and part of Vishay Green. They support reflow soldering and are compatible with automated pick-and-place assembly, allowing them to be used in automated PCB manufacturing.
