Industrial Controller Targets Faster IoT Deployment

Erqos Technologies has launched the EQSP32CE, an industrial grade controller built around the ESP32 S3 platform, aiming to bridge the gap between development boards and deployable industrial hardware.

Unlike conventional ESP32 boards designed primarily for prototyping, the EQSP32CE integrates features required for real world automation environments, including DIN rail mounting, industrial power input, surge protection, field wiring support, and CE certification. The design enables developers to move projects from development to deployment without requiring additional carrier boards, protection circuits, or extensive hardware redesign.

The controller combines Ethernet, WiFi, MQTT connectivity, and industrial communication interfaces such as RS485, RS232, and CAN bus. These built in interfaces support protocols including Modbus RTU, DMX512, and custom serial communications while eliminating the need for external transceiver modules.

One of the platform’s key features is its software defined I/O architecture. All 16 terminals can function as digital inputs or outputs, while eight channels also support analog modes including 0 to 10V, 4 to 20mA, thermistor sensing, and other industrial measurements. Additional capabilities include pulse counting, encoder interfaces, PWM generation, smart coil driving, and protected solid state outputs.

Powered by a dual core 240 MHz ESP32 S3 processor with 8MB Flash and 512KB RAM, the controller supports development through Arduino, ESP IDF, and PlatformIO, providing access to the wider ESP32 software ecosystem.

The platform is further supported by expansion modules covering digital and analog I/O, thermocouple interfaces, relay modules, pH monitoring, and cellular connectivity. Erqos also introduced EQ AI, a generative development tool that converts natural language descriptions into hardware aware C++ code, automating networking, MQTT, and device management functions.

What they often lacked was hardware that could survive real installations,” says Cosma Pabouctsidis, CTO at Erqos. “The EQSP32CE gives them an ESP32-S3 with industrial I/O, protection, expansion, connectivity, and certification, so projects can move from bench prototype to field deployment without redesigning the hardware from scratch.”
