Littelfuse, Inc., an industrial technology manufacturer, has introduced the Nano 2 415 SMD Series Fuse—the company’s first surface-mount fuse with a 1500 A interrupting rating at 277 V. Designed to provide protection for 250 V applications with voltage fluctuations, the 415 Series offers fault current protection in an SMD package, making it suitable for space-limited designs.

The SMD Series is well-suited for a variety of high-performance applications. In consumer electronics, it can be used in power adapters, chargers, and power supplies. In industrial systems, it supports components such as inverters, converters, and instrumentation. The series is also applicable in automotive settings, including EV charging stations, home chargers, and lighting. For appliances and white goods, it is suitable for use in washers, dryers, and refrigerators. Additionally, it fits into home automation systems, including automated garage doors and smart home devices.

The 415 Series offers a drop-in replacement for other fuses on the market, with the added benefit of higher I²t values to withstand surges more effectively. It also acts as the surface-mount alternative to the Littelfuse 215 Cartridge Series, providing a higher voltage rating and replacing traditional through-hole cartridge fuse solutions. Switching to an SMD fuse allows electronics engineers to automate their manufacturing processes, improving production speed, increasing throughput, and lowering labor costs—helping make final products more competitive.

Some of the key features of the Nano 2 415 SMD Series Fuse include:

  • Handles up to 1500 A at 277 V
  • Protects 250 V systems from voltage spikes
  • Better surge protection than many other fuses
  • Small SMD size for easy, automated assembly

“This new fuse—our first with a high 1500 A interrupt rating at 277 V—provides electronic designers using legacy through-hole solutions with an option to switch to an SMD part,” said Daniel Wang, Senior Director of Product Management, Over Current–Passives, at Littelfuse. “By doing so, they can fully automate their assembly process, increasing production efficiency and reducing manufacturing costs.”
