Power Devices For High Current Designs

Two power chips reduce power loss. They support motor drives, power supplies, and battery systems, and work in surface-mount and through-hole designs.

iDEAL Semiconductor has expanded its SuperQ 200V MOSFET portfolio with two new devices designed for widely used power packages. The additions target applications such as motor drives, switched-mode power supplies, and other high-current industrial and battery-powered systems.

The iS20M5R5S1T MOSFET is available in the industry-standard TOLL package and offers a maximum RDS(on) of 5.5mΩ. The company says this is the lowest on-resistance currently available for a 200V MOSFET in this package. The device supports higher power density and helps reduce conduction losses in designs where board space is limited.

The second device, iS20M6R3S1P, is offered in the TO-220 package with a maximum RDS(on) of 6.3mΩ. This package is commonly used in designs that require through-hole assembly, mechanical mounting, or direct heatsinking.

Together, the two devices cover both surface-mount and through-hole power design needs. The MOSFETs are designed for motor-drive systems where efficiency and fault tolerance are important. Features aimed at these applications include short-circuit withstand current capability, easier paralleling with ±0.5V VGS(th), and a 175°C industrial temperature rating. The devices also support high current handling of 151A in the TOLL package and 172A in the TO-220 package. Both are avalanche-rated and undergo 100% UIS testing during production.

Beyond motor drives, the MOSFETs can also be used in switched-mode power supplies (SMPS), secondary-side synchronous rectification, and other high-current power systems.

The company plans to extend the same 200V, 5.5mΩ SuperQ performance to additional packages in 2026. These include the D2PAK-7L package (iS20M5R5S1H) for high-current surface-mount designs with stronger thermal and mechanical performance, and the TOLT package (iS20M5R5S\TC), which supports compact layouts and top-side cooling for power systems.

“By delivering the industry’s lowest on-resistance in standard power packages, our SuperQ technology enables higher efficiency, higher power density, and simpler system design,” said Mark Granahan, CEO and Founder of iDEAL Semiconductor.
