IP Rated USB Type C Connectors Include UV-Glued O-Ring Models

Same Sky has expanded its USB Type-C connector lineup with new IP-rated models designed for use in environments where water, dust, and contaminants are present. The updated UJ family now includes waterproof USB receptacles with ratings ranging from IPX5, IPX6, IPX7, and IPX8 to IP66, IP67, and IP68. These ratings indicate protection against water jets, immersion, and dust ingress, making the connectors suitable for outdoor and industrial use.

These products can be used by hardware engineers, product designers, and OEM manufacturers developing systems that operate in demanding conditions. Typical use cases include industrial control systems, automotive electronics, outdoor equipment, handheld devices, and IoT products. Using these connectors, designers can build systems that support high-speed data transfer and high-power delivery while maintaining protection against environmental exposure.

The connectors support a wide range of USB standards, from USB 2.0 up to USB 4.0 Gen 3×2. This allows data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps. They also support power delivery up to 240 W at 48 V and 5 A. For designs that only require charging or power, Same Sky offers versions without data pins. These power-only models reduce cost and simplify design for applications where data transfer is not needed.

All models are compatible with standard reflow soldering processes. Selected parts use UV-glued O-rings that can withstand reflow temperatures, which helps maintain sealing performance during assembly and reduces additional sealing steps. These include models such as UJC-H-G-SMT-1-P6-TR-65, UJ32-C-H-G-SMT-4-P24-TR-68, UJ20-C-V-G-SMT-P16-TR-66, UJ20-C-H-G-MSMT-P16-TR-67, and UJ20-C-H-G-SMT-P16-TR-67.

The connectors are available in multiple mounting styles, including hybrid mount, mid-mount SMT, mid-mount hybrid, and surface mount with or without anchor pins. They are also offered in both horizontal and vertical orientations, giving flexibility in PCB layout and enclosure design. The connectors are rated for up to 10,000 mating cycles and support an operating temperature range from -40°C to 85°C.
