Advanced MOSFETs To Drive Transportation Electrification

Revolutionizing transportation electrification, advanced MOSFETs meet surging demand for ECUs in evolving electric vehicles, propelling compact design and enhanced power capability.

The continuous progression of transportation electrification is underway. Alongside traditional passenger cars, electric power is increasingly being adopted by 2- and 3-wheelers as well as light vehicles. As a result, the market demand for Electronic Control Units (ECUs) operating within the 24 V to 72 V range is anticipated to keep expanding in the forthcoming years. Infineon Technologies AG has launched automotive MOSFETs designed for 60 V and 120 V applications to accommodate this trend.

The press release says that the on-resistance spans from 1.7 mΩ to 1.8 mΩ for the 120 V MOSFETs and maintains at 0.8 mΩ for the 60 V MOSFETs. This characteristic renders the 60 V MOSFETs exceptionally well-suited for high-power 24 V supplied applications in commercial autonomous vehicles (CAVs) or for high-voltage to low-voltage (HV-LV) DC-DC converters in electric vehicles (EVs). Meanwhile, the 120 V MOSFETs find application in traction inverters for two- or three-wheelers and lightweight electric vehicles, particularly those supplied with 48 V to 72 V power.

The company claims that the automotive MOSFETs, available in high-power packages denoted as TOLL, TOLG, and TOLT, offer a compact physical design alongside exceptional thermal performance, all combined with excellent switching characteristics. The six new products include a reduction in the gate threshold voltage, facilitating designs involving parallel MOSFETs to enhance output power capacity.
