Espressif has introduced ESP-Claw, a framework for ESP32 series microcontrollers that brings LLM-driven agent capabilities to connected devices. The framework supports event-driven responses, LLM-based decision-making, context retention, and local actions. It also provides integration with sensors, device states, and other real-world inputs, allowing developers to build AI agents that can perceive, reason, and act on connected devices.

ESP-Claw can support local or hybrid AI deployments. Devices can perform AI tasks at the edge while connecting to cloud-based LLMs when required. This can be used for smart home, industrial, and consumer IoT applications. For example, a smart home device can receive sensor input, use an LLM to make a decision, and trigger an action.

Espressif has also provided firmware and reference implementations for AI-enabled physical interfaces through its esp-desktop-buddy project. The implementation is based on Anthropic’s Claude Desktop Buddy concept, which allows ESP32-based maker devices to interact with Claude on macOS and Windows.

Supported devices such as the ESP32-S3-BOX-3 and ESP DualKey can be flashed directly from a browser. Developers can also adapt the implementation to their own ESP32-based hardware using the software development kit.

For AI-assisted development, Espressif has introduced its Documentation Model Context Protocol Server. It allows LLMs and AI tools to query official Espressif documentation in a structured format, helping development tools retrieve information about software development kits and application programming interfaces.

Espressif has added ESP32-C6 integration to Amazon’s Alexa Connect Kit Software Development Kit for Matter. This allows developers building Matter-compliant smart home devices to integrate ESP32-C6 with Alexa ecosystems while using its Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth Low Energy capabilities. The kit supports provisioning, certification workflows, and cloud connectivity for smart home products.
