Researchers at SiPhox Health have introduced a new blood testing technology for home use. Using a silicon photonic chip, this system can measure up to 20 biomarkers, addressing the limitations of traditional lab-based tests. The goal is to make blood testing more accessible, providing patients and doctors with timely health insights.

The blood testing system uses silicon photonic chip technology that integrates optical components into a single chip. This miniaturization combines lab equipment like lasers and mirrors into a 1-millimeter chip, using semiconductor laser technology for cost-effective production. The chips contain photonic immunoassay sensors that detect proteins and hormones in blood samples. To collect samples, users can use third-party arm patches at home and insert a disposable cartridge containing the chip into the system to start the analysis.

The photonic chips perform optical measurements to analyze biomarkers, providing results that are displayed on a dashboard accessible to both patients and physicians. The dashboard shows real-time readings and tracks trends for managing chronic diseases. The system also integrates large language models to process third-party blood test data and combine it with SiPhox’s measurements for health monitoring.

Although still awaiting FDA clearance, the device has been validated by third parties for accuracy, and SiPhox offers mail-in blood testing services with approved technology for chronic disease management. The technology allows mass production of up to 1 billion chips monthly from a single facility, shifting blood testing from a lab-based process to a home-based activity. This scalability makes at-home diagnostics more accessible and efficient.

This technology aims to make routine blood testing as simple as brushing teeth, offering benefits for individuals managing chronic conditions like inflammatory diseases through early detection. Once FDA clearance is achieved, SiPhox plans to collaborate with healthcare providers and insurers to offer a scalable, telehealth-compatible solution to integrate blood testing into everyday health management.
