U-blox has recently introduced six new NORA-B2 Bluetooth Low Energy module variants. These modules now integrate Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF54L Series of ultra-low power wireless Systems-on-Chip (SoCs), offering a flexible solution for mass-market applications with multiple antennas, architectures, and chipsets options.

The new variants maintain NORA-B2’s advantages, delivering lower power consumption and higher processing efficiency. They use up to 50% less current than previous models while doubling processing capacity. Enhanced security features make them suitable for IoT applications, including smart home devices, industrial automation, and healthcare.

The NORA-B2 series has four types for different needs. NORA-B20 is the most powerful, with a fast 128 MHz processor, a helper processor, a low-power radio, 1.5 MB of storage, and 256 KB of RAM. NORA-B21 is for mid-range devices, with 1.0 MB of storage, 192 KB of RAM, and support for many wireless connections like Bluetooth and Zigbee. NORA-B22 is cheaper, with 0.5 MB of storage, 96 KB of RAM, and 31 input/output pins. NORA-B26 is the easiest to use, with built-in software that lets users add Bluetooth without any extra knowledge.

All modules meet PSA Certified Level 3 security standards. They include secure boot, tamper detection, and firmware updates over the air (FOTA) to protect IoT devices from potential threats and ensure data and system safety. These modules also support Bluetooth Core 6.0, which includes Channel Sounding, making them ideal for cost-effective tracking and location-based applications.

“We are excited to see Nordic’s entire nRF54L Series of SoCs seamlessly integrated into the NORA-B2 module series. The market demand for energy-efficient solutions at a competitive cost is skyrocketing, and this product category is well-positioned to meet that need. u-blox’s commitment to staying ahead of industry and market trends reinforces our confidence in this valuable partnership,” says Thomas Holmberg, Regional Sales Director at Nordic Semiconductor.
