Solid State Storage Technology Corporation (SSSTC) has introduced the CA8 Series, the world’s first industrial M.2 solid-state drive (SSD) built with KIOXIA’s BiCS FLASH generation 8, 218-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory, and a PCIe Gen5 x4 interface.

The enhancements are a critical enabler for data-intensive edge computing and high-performance industrial workloads. The robust durability and consistent performance that is promised by the company can make it ideal for challenging big data driven tasks like IoT, factory automation, networking, in-vehicle systems,  edge servers, and all those involving massive Edge AI workloads. Long-term reliability and broad system compatibility are supported by mean time between failures(MTBF) exceeding 3 million hours, a wide operating temperature range (0 °C to 85 °C), and 5 to 10 years of longevity.

Designed for high-performance industrial applications, the CA8 Series complies with NVMe 2.0, supporting ultra-fast data access with per-lane transfer rates of up to 32 GT/s, effectively doubling the throughput of PCIe 4.0. Leveraging SLC caching, the drives achieve sequential read speeds of up to 14,000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 12,000 MB/s. Random performance reaches up to 2,000K input-output operations per second (IOPS) for reads and 1,600K IOPS for writes, positioning the series as the fastest industrial SSDs available.

At the core of the series is BiCS FLASH Gen 8 technology, featuring CMOS directly bonded to array (CBA) wafer bonding. This innovation delivers a 20% improvement in write performance, more than 10% lower read latency, and up to 30% better power efficiency compared to earlier generations.

To enhance reliability and resilience, the Series integrates high-performance error correction code (ECC), Power Loss Notification (PLN) to safeguard data during unexpected shutdowns, and advanced security through AES-256 encryption with TCG Opal support. The new SSDs, available in the standard M.2 2280 form factor, come in 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB capacities.
