What is really happening at the edge of private networks? Hidden coverage gaps and quiet performance drops are harder to see and manual testing no longer works at scale.

Engineers running private 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi networks often struggle to see what is actually happening at the edge. Problems like dropped connections, uneven coverage, and poor device performance are hard to track because data is limited, spread across sites, or needs constant manual testing. The updated XEdge platform from VIAVI Solutions Inc. is aimed at teams that need continuous, clear visibility into these private networks without adding operational burden.
The update focuses on collecting more useful network and device data through new sensor options. These sensors help engineers understand where connectivity breaks down, how devices behave, and why performance varies across locations. By supporting different sensor types, the platform can now scale from small sites to large, complex deployments without forcing a one-size-fits-all setup.
For broader testing and troubleshooting, XEdge v2 is designed as a portable sensor that supports up to four cellular modems. This allows higher data capture during continuous monitoring, walk tests, and drive tests, which are common pain points in complex private network environments. For fixed locations where always-on monitoring is needed, XEdge Lite provides a smaller, single-modem option suited for dense deployments. It is available in standard and rugged IP67 versions, making it usable indoors or outdoors.
The sensor lineup is also expanding to support mobile, on-demand data collection using compatible devices. This helps teams capture real user experience and local network conditions, rather than relying only on static test points. All sensors are managed through a single controller and use the same test scenarios, reducing setup and training effort.
“The expanded XEdge portfolio generates new ways for customers to collect edge data while keeping the focus on centralized software intelligence,” said Yann Rouveyre, General Manager, Mission Critical and Railway Solutions, VIAVI. “XEdge enables consistent, objective visibility into private network performance, helping organizations ensure reliability and user experience across diverse environments, including campuses, factories, transport hubs, remote sites and secure zones.”
