TDK Corporation has added new models to its X2 safety film capacitor family with the B3292xU/V series. The aim is to support higher voltages while reducing board space in industrial and automotive designs. Main applications include capacitive power supplies and energy meters, where stable operation and compact size are important. They are also suitable for industrial drives that operate under continuous electrical stress.

The new versions come with compact lead spacings of 15 mm and 22.5 mm. They cover capacitance values from 47 nF to 1.8 µF in these smaller sizes. The capacitors are rated at 350 V AC and can handle peak voltage pulses up to 2.5 kV, in line with IEC 60384-14. They are used for interference suppression when connected in series with the mains supply.

The series can be used in on-board chargers and EV charging systems, where reliability and compliance with safety standards are required. PV inverters are another key area, especially in systems exposed to varying environmental conditions.

Across the full B3292xU/V range, lead spacings extend from 15 mm up to 52.5 mm. Capacitance values go from 47 nF to 20 µF. This gives designers flexibility to choose parts based on space and electrical requirements.

The series has passed the THB test at +85 °C, 85% relative humidity, and rated voltage for 1000 hours, meeting Grade III, Test Condition B. It also meets AEC-Q200 requirements. The maximum operating temperature is +110 °C, which supports use in high-temperature environments.

These capacitors offer self-healing properties and are tested at 1505 V DC for two seconds. This helps improve durability under voltage stress. Design tools and SPICE models are available to support simulation and integration into new designs.
