What’s holding back microLED adoption? A new high-voltage architecture is aiming to reduce complexity and improve manufacturing efficiency.

Aledia has announced the commercial availability of its FlexiNOVA microLED (FN1530F9), the microLED designed to operate at 9V. The development marks a step forward for the LED industry, with a focus on enabling more scalable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective display manufacturing.
For display manufacturers, the higher-voltage approach simplifies system design while improving efficiency. Operating at 9V helps reduce power consumption, streamline TFT backplane requirements, and support more efficient power delivery. This is particularly relevant as microLED displays move from premium segments toward broader consumer and commercial adoption. The architecture also maintains consistent optical performance across different chip sizes, including ultra-compact formats.
The FlexiNOVA platform is built for semiconductor-scale production using company’s GaN nanowire-on-silicon technology on 200 mm wafers. By aligning with standard silicon manufacturing processes, it supports higher yield, better repeatability, and a clearer path to cost reduction at scale. Its single-body architecture enables operation across multiple voltage levels, from 6V to 9V and beyond, while supporting chip sizes down to 3.5 µm.

The platform is backed by a broad patent portfolio and is designed for compatibility with scalable manufacturing workflows. Developed in collaboration with CEA-Leti and supported by the France 2030 program, it aims to address key challenges in microLED production, particularly around efficiency, integration, and large-scale manufacturability.
Felix Marchal, CSMO of Aledia, says, “With 9V FlexiNOVA microLED, Aledia opens path to microLED mass adoption in the display industry. This breakthrough enables lower power consumption, together with scalable and cost-efficient manufacturing — paving the way for the widespread adoption of microLED displays in mainstream markets.”
