Sfera Labs has started shipping its M.2 LTE Module X2-Series Expansion Board (X2BW10XM2Z), enabling industrial edge servers to gain LTE connectivity and GNSS positioning for deployment in locations without fixed network access. The module is designed for the company’s Strato Pi Max platform, allowing industrial systems to remain connected in remote sites, mobile assets and distributed infrastructure.

The expansion board fits directly into the Strato Pi Max XL and XS expansion bay and is compatible with Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 and 5, eliminating the need for additional hardware or custom integration. It adds dual-SIM cellular connectivity alongside integrated GNSS positioning, making the platform suitable for applications requiring reliable communications and location tracking.

According to Sfera Labs, the module enables the Strato Pi Max to operate as a self-contained industrial edge server capable of connecting over cellular networks while reporting its location. The company says this makes it suitable for fleet management, remote monitoring, smart infrastructure and other demanding field deployments.

Key features include two Nano SIM slots for multi-operator support or automatic SIM failover, compatibility with Telit LN920A M.2 LTE data cards, and always-on connectivity that allows user-developed applications to run directly on the modem in conjunction with the onboard RP2040 microcontroller. The integrated GNSS receiver supports asset tracking, geo-fencing and geo-referenced data logging.

Additional hardware features include dedicated modern control lines for power management, reset, RF disable and GNSS disable, alongside front-panel LEDs that provide instant feedback on power and network registration status. The LTE Module X2-Series Expansion Board is available now.
