A browser-based simulator lets users design electronic circuits, write microcontroller code, test firmware, and debug projects online without installing software.
EWskills has launched EWsim.io, a browser-based mixed-signal circuit simulator that lets users design electronic circuits and run microcontroller firmware without installing any software. The free tool is intended for engineers, students, educators, hobbyists and makers.
Developed by the team behind ElectronicWings, EWsim combines analog and digital circuit simulation on a single platform. Users can create circuits using components such as transistors, op-amps, 555 timers and voltage regulators, while monitoring voltages, currents and waveforms in real time. The simulator includes a library of more than 200 electronic components, including displays, sensors, relays, keypads and rotary encoders.
The platform supports firmware development for four microcontroller families: Arduino (UNO, Mega and Nano), AVR (ATmega and ATtiny), PIC (PIC10F, PIC12F and PIC16F), and 8051. Users can write code in the built-in editor, compile it on the server and simulate it directly in the browser. It also supports pre-built HEX files and allows multiple microcontrollers to run on the same simulation canvas. Support for ESP32 and ARM-based controllers is currently under development.
EWsim also includes debugging tools commonly found in hardware development environments. For Arduino and AVR devices, users can set breakpoints, step through code, inspect registers and memory, and view program execution. Built-in virtual instruments such as an oscilloscope, logic analyzer, voltmeter, ammeter, frequency meter and serial terminal help users analyse circuit behaviour without leaving the browser.
The simulator has been developed to work with the company’s EWskills learning platform, where users can practise embedded programming and circuit design through hands-on projects. The company says this will allow learners to design, simulate and debug complete embedded applications instead of only writing code.
