Can a visitor prove their identity before reaching the reception desk? A self-service kiosk is bringing document and facial verification together.

HID, Soloinsight, and Connected Technology Solutions (CTS) have integrated document authentication and facial recognition into a self-service visitor check-in kiosk for enterprises and critical infrastructure facilities. The system combines HID ATOM document reading and U.ARE.U facial recognition with Soloinsight’s CloudGate visitor management and physical identity and access management platform.
The solution is intended for facilities such as hospitals, data centres, offices, and logistics hubs that handle contractors, vendors, and visitors. Conventional check-in can rely on a visitor entering a name or presenting an identity document that is not authenticated. The integration is designed to verify identity before issuing a visitor credential while maintaining a central record of visitor activity.
A host first pre-registers a visitor through CloudGate, which sends an invitation containing a QR code. At the kiosk, the visitor scans the code and presents a passport, driving licence, or mobile ID to the document reader. The reader supports QR codes, passports, driving licences, and mobile IDs, while capturing data from barcodes and RFID or NFC chips and checking document integrity features.
The facial recognition module performs live face verification and checks whether the face corresponds with the identity document. It can reject scans that do not match or do not represent a live face. After verification, the platform confirms the check-in, the kiosk prints a visitor pass, and the host is notified. Returning visitors can also be permitted to check in without a host where required.
Each transaction is stored in a centralised visitor record for investigations, reporting, and regulatory compliance. The platform supports more than 40 frameworks, including HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2 Type II, and ISO 27001, along with around 30 physical access control system connectors and more than 150 integrations across IT, HR, IAM, and SIEM systems. The kiosk is fabricated at CTS’s Wisconsin headquarters and supports ADA compliance, a three-year warranty, technical support, and installation services.
