Raspberry Pi has introduced a programming jig designed to simplify the production provisioning of products built around its Compute Module 5. The single-head system can install an operating system and security configuration onto the module, reducing manual intervention when preparing devices at scale.

The Programming Jig is aimed at developers moving from prototype builds to repeatable production. By automating provisioning steps, the system can help reduce configuration effort and improve consistency between units. This can be particularly useful for manufacturers that need to prepare larger batches of Compute Module-based products without manually configuring each module.

The jig is built around Raspberry Pi OS and integrates with the company’s rpi-image-gen and rpi-sb-provisioner software. These tools support functions such as operating system installation, secure boot implementation, and full-disk encryption. Raspberry Pi Imager can also be used to customise the jig’s operating environment, including Wi-Fi, security, and user settings.

For operation, the Compute Module 5 is placed into the module bay and secured using the clamp. After the required ports are connected and the software is configured, provisioning can be initiated without further intervention. A status LED indicates when programming is complete, while separate activity LEDs provide visibility into jig and module activity.

The rear panel provides Ethernet connections for the jig and device under test, along with a USB programming port for updating the jig software. Connecting both Ethernet ports to the same network can also accelerate the provisioning workflow.
