The chip resistors combine power handling, high-frequency operation, and low parasitics for a range of applications.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced a new series of thin-film chip resistors in compact 0402 and 0603 case sizes. Built on an aluminium nitride (AlN) substrate, the Vishay Sfernice CHEP series combines power handling and high-frequency performance in standard surface-mount footprints. This allows designers to increase power density without sacrificing RF performance or adding board space.
The CHEP series is designed to provide higher power handling than competing solutions in the same class. While competing solutions are often rated below 1 W, the new resistors have standard power ratings of 1.2 W for the 0402 case size and 1.8 W for the 0603 case size. When mounted according to the datasheet guidelines, the power ratings increase by 50%, reaching 1.8 W and 2.8 W, respectively.
The resistors operate across a wide frequency range and are available with either flip-chip or wraparound terminals. With flip-chip mounting, the 0402 case size supports frequencies up to 50 GHz. With wraparound terminals and active face-up mounting, the same case size supports operation up to 20 GHz. The 0603 case size supports frequencies up to 40 GHz.
The CHEP series is designed to minimise internal reactance, with LC values as low as 1 × 10⁻²⁴. These low parasitic values help reduce phase shift, maintain consistent impedance, and minimise noise, supporting RF performance. The standard 0402 and 0603 case sizes also allow integration into widely used land patterns, simplifying PCB design and layout.
The resistors are designed for telecom and connectivity applications, including low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, base station terminals, 5G and 6G networks, and RF infrastructure such as remote radio units (RRUs) and antennas.
Other applications include aerospace and defence systems such as drones, satellite payloads, guidance and telemetry systems, data links, and phased-array radar systems.
The CHEP series offers resistance values from 20 Ω to 120 Ω, with tolerances down to ±1%. The temperature coefficient is ±100 ppm/°C, while ±50 ppm/°C is available on request.
The devices are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green. They operate across a temperature range of −55°C to +155°C.
