How can engineers fit more RF channels into crowded boards? An eight-port interconnect combines a compact form factor with signals up to 40GHz.

SV Microwave has introduced its SMPM Mini-D RF interconnects for board-to-board applications where multiple RF connections must fit within limited space. The design brings eight connections into one compact interface, helping engineers increase connectivity without allocating separate connector footprints across crowded boards.
As RF systems become more densely packed, individual connectors can consume valuable board area and complicate cable routing. Consolidating several connections into one assembly can simplify these layouts while making it easier to accommodate multiple RF paths within compact equipment.
This approach can benefit systems such as military and aerospace equipment, test and measurement instruments, and high-density RF modules, where several signals may need to move between boards without adding substantial connector bulk. In such systems, reducing the space occupied by interconnects can leave more room for other electronics and mechanical requirements.
The SMPM Mini-D combines an SMPM RF interface with a space-saving D-sub form factor. It supports frequencies up to 40GHz and uses push-on coupling for simpler mating. The system includes an eight-port ganged RF cable assembly along with two PCB connector mating halves.
The PCB interfaces are available in surface-mount and edge-launch configurations, giving designers options for different board layouts. The combination of the compact form factor, eight-port arrangement, and high-frequency capability allows the interconnect to serve dense RF assemblies without requiring a separate connector for every signal path.
