E-Ink Displays Add Colour To Meeting Room Systems

How can low-power display technology simplify meeting room management? A locally developed system combines colour indicators, calendar connectivity and compact hardware.

Panasonic Life Solutions India has introduced a Made-in-India range of meeting room displays that uses E-ink-based panel technology and four-colour status indicators to show room availability and scheduling information.

The displays add red and yellow to the previous black-and-white presentation, allowing room status and priority bookings to be distinguished through colour-coded templates. E-ink technology supports low-power operation while keeping displayed information legible, making it relevant to room scheduling devices that need to show information without functioning like conventional digital displays.

The range comprises two models. RoomBook 7 features a 7.5-inch, 5:3 anti-glare display, while RoomBook 11 uses an 11.6-inch, 3:2 anti-glare display. The smaller model is intended for individual meeting rooms, while the larger version targets boardrooms, lobbies, hallways and wayfinding applications. Both feature slimmer bezels, and the company describes their installation as wireless, reducing the need for extensive cabling.

For system integration, the devices support Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and iCal. Panasonic Portal enables organisations to connect calendar systems, register meeting rooms and pair displays. The devices retrieve meeting information from connected calendars to show room availability and schedules.

The hardware and RoomBook application have both been developed in India. The company says the range is designed for corporate and government offices, educational institutions, training centres and co-working spaces.

Although E-ink supports low-power operation, the supplied specifications do not state battery capacity, expected battery life, display refresh rate, wireless communication protocol or the precise power consumption of either model. These details would help engineers assess the devices for specific deployments.
