Lattice Semiconductor has introduced Lattice Prompt, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered development tool for small and mid-range field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). It connects AI agent tools with Lattice’s design software, documentation, datasheets, and knowledge base to support the FPGA design process using natural language inputs. The tool aims to reduce development time, improve productivity, and help developers optimise design performance and resource utilisation across the full design flow.

Lattice Prompt supports simulation, synthesis, mapping, placement and routing, timing analysis, and bitstream generation. It can also generate design reports and documentation. By automating these tasks, the tool lets developers focus on work that requires their domain expertise.

The tool connects to developers’ preferred large language models (LLMs) and agent-based integrated development environments (IDEs) through the open Model Context Protocol (MCP). Supported tools include Claude Code, Cursor, and Visual Studio Code. It uses these AI agent tools to work with Lattice Radiant, which it runs automatically in the background.

Lattice Prompt uses Lattice’s documentation, datasheets, and knowledge base to ground AI-generated responses in the company’s technical information. This is intended to provide more accurate and relevant responses to support design decisions. According to Lattice Semiconductor, the tool can deliver 10x or more productivity gains on common design tasks while helping developers optimise FPGA performance and capabilities.

“Accelerating time-to-market demands and rising design complexity are putting mounting pressure on FPGA developers to do more with every design cycle,” said Esam Elashmawi, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer, Lattice Semiconductor. “Lattice Prompt gives developers AI-assisted access to the full design flow, grounded in Lattice’s validated knowledge, so they can focus on what matters most: building differentiated systems.”
