DISPLAY VISIONS GmbH have launched their EA DOG series of chip on glass (COG) LCD modules from, designed specifically for small scale electronics such as mobile industrial measuring devices. The modules have flexible options allowing you to choose the right sized display with the correct illumination and interface for your application whilst keeping power consumption low.

Typically using between 150-900µA of power at 3.3V depending on the size, these modules are perfect for battery powered devices. The displays are highly visible in bright sunlight and thanks to their COG design, the liquid crystal display and driver chip are combined into a single module with conductive tracks directly connecting to the pixels. This eliminates the need for extra interconnecting components reducing the overall module size and reducing possible faults.

There are thirteen different module sizes in the series including seven text displays ranging from 1×8 up to 4×20 characters and six graphic displays ranging from 102×64 up to 240×128 pixels. Each can be paired with a backlit option in seven different colours including white, amber and RGB. The modules connect together with the display and backlight providing up to 23 different combinations. Certain modules can also be upgraded with a touch interface. Connectivity varies depending on the model with either SPI or I²C bus options.

Before purchasing you can use the free DOG simulator from DISPLAY VISIONS. This lets you view both text and graphic options alongside different backlight options. The 97804USB test board can also be used to view your content on hardware. Simply connect your display and run your content directly from the simulator.

The company also provide a USBSTICK-FONT package. This contains font sets and a font editor meaning you can create or edit your own fonts using Windows fonts. You can use a variety of different fonts including Cyrillic, Greek and Arabic characters. It can also convert BMP images and output source code for C and Basic compilers.

If designing with Arduino then DISPLAY VISIONS provide sketches, libraries, documentation and EAGLE files for most modules within the series. This means you can open and edit the circuit diagrams and PCB layout within EAGLE/Autodesk.
