A four-channel fuse offers independent current protection and helps keep critical equipment running during faults.

RECOM has launched a small electronic fuse (e-Fuse), RACPRO1-4SP-BS, from the RACPRO family for industrial 24VDC power distribution. The device is only 22mm wide and has four separate output channels. Each channel has its own protection against excessive current. The e-Fuse is available in 5A and 10A versions, which means that each of the four channels can handle up to 5A and 10A, respectively. The main advantage is that if one connected device develops a fault or draws too much current, only that channel is switched off. The other three channels continue receiving power.
The company claims that the e-Fuse provides a 150% Power Boost for 5s and tolerates overloads above 150% for up to 100ms to avoid unnecessary tripping during short-term load peaks. It can deliver its full rated power even when the surrounding temperature reaches 60°C. When switched on, the module gradually increases its output voltage instead of supplying full voltage suddenly. It also switches on its four output channels one after another, with a 50-millisecond gap between them. This helps prevent a sudden surge of current when connected equipment starts up, especially equipment with large capacitors.
The press release also states that if the overall system draws too much current, the module switches off output channels in a pre-set priority order, starting with the least important ones. This allows more important equipment to continue receiving power for longer.
“The RACPRO1-4SP-BS combines several functions that are particularly important in practical applications: a compact design, individual channel protection, and straightforward handling. This allows us to make the protection of 24VDC loads in industrial applications as simple as possible,” says Michael Peters, Product Manager at RECOM.
The module can be used in factory and industrial automation equipment, building and process automation systems, industrial power distribution, warehouse material-handling systems (intralogistics), infrastructure equipment, and electrical control cabinets. It is certified to the IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 safety standards, manufactured in Europe, and comes with a three-year warranty.
