SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) is piloting a new work-learn programme called the SkillsFuture Work-Learn Bootcamp (WLB). The initiative was taken to encourage work-learn opportunities for young graduates and mid-career individuals.

Will enhance technical skills

It is designed to endow participants with the relevant job-role specific behavioural, mindset and technical skills in sectors with acute demand.

Participants will undergo 8 to 12 weeks of intensive institutional training before seeking employment. The boot camp will involve employers throughout the process of developing the industry-relevant curriculum for identifying suitable participants for the programme and recruitment. The programme is developed in partnership between SSG, the five polytechnics, ITE and Generation.

This partnership will develop and implement the short, focused boot camps for young people to work and learn in jobs, resulting in 17,000 job placements across 23 professions in 9 countries to date.

How will it benefit?

Mentors at the companies will be assigned to the participants and will continue to support them as they develop their skills at work. The participants will receive a competitive starting salary and full-time employment with participating companies. Also, the eligible individuals will receive a training allowance upon completion of their training. The participating employers are also involved in curriculum development from the on-set to monitor that individuals are trained adequately for the specified job role. During and after the training they can subsequently recruit these job-ready individuals.

Well, SSG will also introduce six new programmes under its Earn and Learn Programme (ELP) which will benefit about 2,400 graduates from polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education so far. These include specialist diplomas in applied artificial intelligence, healthy ageing and community care for seniors.
