Role

The successful candidate will operate as a member of the Corporate Component Engineering department team. Responsibilities include reviewing third party component datasheets for accuracy, working with suppliers to find component solutions, and support Component Engineering Subject Matter Experts in areas such as RF Clocking, RF Switches, RF Filters, Power/Analog, RLCs, Interconnect, Camera, Display, Memory.  Daily responsibilities include working with the core team, component suppliers, IT, Sourcing, and processing new material control numbers in Agile (PLM) for new component requests and component change requests.  This successful candidate will need to effectively communicate across Geo’s (USA, India, China, and EU) verbally, and written, on a regular basis.

  • Responsible for providing component support for multiple groups and projects at Qualcomm (e.g., Engineering, CAD, Procurement, Machine Shop).
  • Obtains and/or Reviews electrical component datasheets for accuracy and completeness.
  • Creates Material Control Numbers (MCNs) for electrical and non-electrical components for component database.
  • Validates requests to make changes to existing MCNs.
  • Communicates and interacts with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for samples and additional information not provided within data sheets.
  • Interacts with Component Engineers, OEMs, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Planning, Support Engineering and Configuration Management in identifying potential alternatives to existing MCNs.
  • Work closely with hardware development and test teams to guide best component selection and drive supplier custom development with respect to application, function, cost, availability, and schedule.
  • Work with hardware designers to comprehend new product needs, perform industry search and if required create mini specifications based on unique requirements.  Work with design team and the suppliers to evaluate, iterate and integrate new products.

Skills/Experience

  • Quickly assimilate onto an existing project and support multiple projects and customers on very fast design schedules. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to communicate clearly, organize effectively and work with cross functional teams across multiple engineering disciplines (RF/analog, mixed signal and digital).
  • Understanding of electrical and/or electronics engineering concepts and circuit solving skills. Familiarity with automotive grade reliability standards and temperature grading a plus.
  • Strong multi-discipline engineering technical/analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as an Applications and/or Component Engineer.
  • Familiarity with Automotive Components.
  • Knowledge base of key component suppliers.
  • Familiar with Analog circuit design, RF Fundamentals, Analog/Digital Communications
  • 2+ years Hardware Engineering experience working in consumer electronics, product design and test environment.
  • 2+ years Field Applications Engineer or Support Engineer Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, or related field.
  • Experience in Agile or similar PLM software.
  • Proficient with Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Proficient with Visio

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong multi-discipline engineering technical/analytical skills
  • Good to have PLM (Agile) experience.
  • Experience in component selection, either as a component engineer, application engineer, or a design engineer.
  • Experience with semiconductor supply chain.
  • Knowledge in RF, mixed-signal, analog design, digital design.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Proficient with Adobe Reader

Education Requirements

B.E. or B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering / Electronics and Communication or equivalent.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field.
