“Can Smart Parking Finally Solve Urban Congestion and Generate Revenue?”

What if parking automation went beyond partial fixes to deliver full-fledged, revenue-generating solutions for congested cities? A quiet revolution in IoT and smart mobility platforms is reshaping how urban spaces approach parking and logistics.

Parkobot

Parkobot is revolutionizing urban parking in India by addressing the long-standing issues of parking scarcity and misuse through an innovative IoT-powered solution. Inspired by the chaotic and unorganized parking scenario often dominated by local touts, Parkobot focuses on the private parking market, which has remained largely untapped and underutilized. The company has developed a unique hardware device—a robust, IP65-certified smart parking barrier—that restricts unauthorized use of individual parking slots while enabling owners to monetize these spaces effortlessly via a cloud-connected mobile app.

In this EFY’s exclusive conversation with founders Amrit Choudhury and Raj Bihani ,they revealed that this solution works on an “Airbnb for parking” model, where owners of private parking spots, such as those in offices, malls, and residential complexes, can rent their idle slots on an hourly basis. The platform’s AI-driven system manages dynamic pricing, booking, and access control, maximizing revenue for owners and improving parking availability for drivers. By integrating electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at these parking hubs, they also support the growing EV market and encourage sustainable urban mobility. The hardware design is uniquely adapted for Indian conditions, featuring durable cold steel construction that can withstand vehicles up to 5 tons, waterlogging, and dust.

Their technology stack is entirely in-house, including custom IoT PCBs, multiple sensors (ultrasonic, proximity), and a scalable parking management system that operates offline with long-lasting batteries. This control over design and software allows continuous innovation and rapid development of new features like voice commands and in-car display integration. Their business model avoids traditional software charges, opting instead for a hardware sale combined with a revenue-sharing model, which facilitates quick adoption and breaks the mindset barrier about monetizing parking.

Currently operational in several major Indian cities with over 20,000 monthly bookings, they’re  expanding into new markets and vehicle segments, including two-wheelers and trucks. Their vision is to unlock the latent value of unused parking spaces globally, reduce urban congestion, and promote clean, intelligent, and efficient city mobility through smart parking ecosystems. This innovative approach positions them as a category creator with no direct global competitors in individual parking spot monetization using IoT technology.

The full interview, with deeper insights into Parkobot’s roadmap and smart city integration, will be published soon.
