A Camera Solution Enhances AI IoT Integration

THine Solutions have launched THEIA-CAM 13MP Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) camera, the THSCP101, that the company claims provides high-resolution image streaming with OLogic’s Pumpkin i350 and Pumpkin i500 Evaluation Kits (EVKs). The EVKs powered by MediaTek are System on Chips (SoCs), which provide edge processing platforms for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) systems. The kit comes with everything needed for integration with EVKs: a camera board encased in acrylic, a flexible flat cable, an adapter board supporting EVK’s 2 Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI) Camera Serial Interface-2 (CSI-2) ports, and a software driver for image streaming and control. Setting up is simplified with the Video4Linux2 (V4L2) driver, facilitating various video controls, and the libcamera middleware stack integrates with the MediaTek Genio SDK.

The company claims to offer various high-resolution options such as 13MP at 20fps, 4K2K at 30fps, and 1080p at 60fps, all in YUV422 format; the device ensures versatile imaging capabilities. Rapid PDAF ensures quick focusing, while the unit maintains best-in-class image quality with well-optimized auto white balance and auto exposure. Consistency in image quality across units is assured, making it suitable for high-volume production. In terms of size, the camera board measures a compact 1.38″ x 1.38″ (35mm x 35mm).

“THSCP101 relieves the design burden for numerous customers of MediaTek Genio series SoCs who require high-performance embedded cameras,” said Tak Iizuka, Chief Solution Architect of THine Solutions, Inc. “Previously, developing a scalable integration of high-resolution and high-performance imaging capabilities to an AI + IoT system had been difficult, but not anymore. MediaTek customers can now plug the THSCP101 to Pumpkin EVKs and then see the state-of-the-art image quality just in a few minutes.”
