Built on the Zen 5 architecture, the processor integrates dual second generation 3D V Cache across all 16 cores, delivering a total of 208MB on chip cache. This expanded cache capacity allows more data to remain closer to the cores, reducing latency and improving throughput in memory intensive workloads such as large code compilation, simulations, and rendering tasks.

The design addresses a key limitation in processor performance where memory access can become a bottleneck in complex workflows. By increasing on chip cache and optimising data access, the processor supports faster iteration cycles and improved responsiveness. AMD has also refined the cache stacking approach by placing it beneath the cores, helping manage thermal performance and sustain higher operating frequencies over longer durations.

In terms of specifications, the processor features 16 cores and 32 threads, with boost frequencies reaching up to 5.6 GHz. It operates at a thermal design power of 200W and is compatible with the AM5 platform, enabling drop-in upgrades for existing systems. The architecture is manufactured on a 4 nanometer process, supporting consistent performance across demanding applications.

Performance gains are reflected in creator and development workloads, with reported improvements in applications such as Blender, DaVinci Resolve, Unreal Engine, and Chromium builds compared to the previous generation. These enhancements position the processor for use cases that require sustained compute performance and efficient data handling.

The processor is available through retail channels and system integrators, including deployment in prebuilt systems such as the Alienware Area 51 desktop, supporting both standalone and integrated adoption.

“I’m excited to introduce the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition, the world’s first desktop processor with AMD 3D V-Cache on both chiplets, delivering an incredible 208MB of on-chip memory,” said Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager, Computing and Graphics Group, AMD. “This is the next evolution, and with a simple drop-in upgrade on AM5, we’re delivering the absolute best performance for world-class gaming and content creation.”
