Phison Electronics, a supplier of NAND controllers and NAND storage solutions, announced it has introduced a range of Universal Flash Storage (UFS) controllers (PS8325, PS8327, PS8329, PS8361). These new UFS solutions from Phison support smartphone devices to achieve performance in mobile storage and enhance user experiences.

As smartphone devices need higher performance, the storage of many entry-level 5G models has moved from eMMC to UFS 2.2, and flagship 4G phone models have started using UFS 2.2. Compared to eMMC’s half-duplex mode, UFS 2.2’s full-duplex mode triples read speeds. This supports smartphone functions that process large amounts of data, such as recording and video playback and reduces power consumption at the same performance level as eMMC. This helps extend the battery life of smartphones and tablets, meeting the need for high performance and low power consumption in mobile devices.

To meet the evolving storage needs of smartphones, Phison has launched the PS8327, a UFS 2.2 controller designed to provide a high performance-to-cost ratio for the growing demand for fast mobile storage. Manufactured with a 22nm process, the PS8327 is a compact UFS 2.2 controller that achieves speeds of 1000MB/s with a single channel and 64 G.B. storage. Phison’s UFS storage solutions offer cost-effectiveness, performance, and low power consumption for mobile devices.

Additionally, the PS8327 features Phison’s sixth-generation LDPC ECC engine, enhancing its error correction capability. It supports current NAND products from various manufacturers and is expected to support future NAND products.

“The UFS 2.2 PS8327 controller represents the culmination of Phison’s decade of experience in UFS research and development that has garnered significant industry praise. Coupled with Phison’s track record of having numerous UFS storage solutions validated by major smartphone chipset suppliers, the PS8327 controller was quickly adopted and deployed by prominent NAND manufacturers upon its release. It is anticipated that mobile devices equipped with Phison’s PS8327 UFS storage solution will be highly competitive in the market,” said K.S. Pua, CEO of Phison.
