For compact board spaces, the new series of step-down non-isolated DC/DC converters with integrated inductors from RECOM’s RPZ series might be the solution. The series offers options with output ratings of 0.5A, 1A, 2A, 3A, and 6A, with input voltages ranging from as low as 2.3V to 7V, depending on the model. The output voltages are adjustable from 0.6V to just below the maximum input voltage.

The 5A-rated RPL-5.0 model also operates within a broader input range of 2.75-17V and allows for output voltage programming between 0.6V and 12V. All these DC/DC converters come in QFN packages, with sizes varying from 2 x 2mm for the 0.5A model to 4 x 6mm for the 6A version, and the RPL-5.0 model measures 3 x 3mm. Featuring flip-chip technology and up to 92% efficiency, these parts can operate at high ambient temperatures, such as 125°C for the RPZ-1.0 with derating, without compromising performance.

All RPZ and RPL series models are fully protected against short circuits, over-current, over-temperature, and input under-voltage, ensuring their ruggedness and reliability under challenging conditions. Selected variants also include a power good and enable pin.

Typical RPZ and RPL DC/DC converter applications include imaging systems, distributed power architectures, optical modules, and portable battery-powered equipment in telecom and industrial settings.

Some of the specifications of RPZ-1.0 Series / Power Module include:

  • 2.3-5.5VDC input range
  • Low profile 2mm
  • Ultra-compact footprint 2x2mm
  • Adjustable output 0.6 to 5.25V
  • 1A output current
  • Up to 125°C ambient temperature with derating
  • Integrated solution

Matthew Dauterive, MSc., DC/DC product manager of RECOM, comments: “These new integrated DC/DCs are a perfect blend of compact design, power, and efficiency, with input and output options to suit a wide range of applications.”
