Flow Sensor That Expands The Possibilities Of Thermal Flow Measurement In Laboratory Analytics

SLF3S-4000B high-flow sensor enables accurate measurement of flow rates up to 1 l/min

SLF3S-4000B is a liquid flow sensor by the Swiss manufacturer Sensirion. The flow sensor can accurately measure flow rates up to 1 l/min with the usual quality, while measuring just 5 cm in length and weighing 7 g. The accurate flow measurement sensor will enable researchers to measure high flow rates while negating the effect of turbulence caused due to higher flow velocities or larger channel cross-sections, thus enabling the sensor to be placed along the narrower side stream (with the laminar flow), therefore providing high measurement accuracy.

The company claims that to accurately measure high flow rates, either higher flow velocities or larger channel cross-sections are required; both factors, however, increase the likelihood of turbulence. To overcome this hydrodynamic limitation, the engineers employed a W-shape channel profile in the new high-flow sensor, thus achieving better accuracy.

“By expanding our product portfolio, we are pursuing a one-stop-shop concept for liquid flow measurement. With the SLF3x family, we now cover the measurement range from microliters to 1 litre per minute in the same look and feel,” explains Patrick Reith, Product Manager for Liquid Flow.

Features of SLF3S-4000B:

  • Accurate measurement of flow rates up to 1 l/min
  • Fast response time to the smallest, most immediate changes in flow rate
  • Digital, calibrated output signal
  • Compact, lightweight design
  • No moving parts in the flow channel
  • Cost-effective automation solution

Sensirion is a technology company based out of Stäfa, Switzerland. It manufactures sensors for automotive, industrial, medical and consumer electronics. After the successful launch of the SLF3S-4000B high-flow sensor, which can measure 1l/m, the Sensirion developers are in the process of developing flow rates of up to 20 litres per minute.
