Rugged Thor-Powered Edge Computer 

A new industrial computing platform combines high-performance edge AI with automotive sensor interfaces for autonomous machines, vehicles, and mobile robots.

Syslogic has introduced the AI Rugged Computer RML A5AGX, an edge computing platform designed for real-time sensor fusion, intelligent vision, and AI workloads in demanding industrial and mobile environments. Based on NVIDIA Jetson AGX Thor modules, the system is intended to process data from cameras, LiDAR, radar and other vehicle-mounted sensors locally rather than relying on remote data-centre infrastructure.

The computer supports either the NVIDIA Jetson Thor T4000 or Jetson Thor T5000. The higher-performance T5000 configuration can deliver up to 2,070 FP4 TFLOPS, while the T4000 reaches up to 1,200 FP4 TFLOPS. The platform supports configurable power consumption from 40W to 130W, allowing system designers to balance computing performance against the power constraints of mobile equipment.

The key features are:

  • Two 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces
  • Up to six isolated CAN ports with CAN FD support
  • One IP67-rated USB 3.2 Type-A port
  • 5G cellular, RTK GNSS and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity
  • Up to 2TB NVMe SSD storage

A key feature of the RML A5AGX is its connectivity for automotive and industrial sensor networks. The dual-deck system can provide up to four 100/1000BASE-T1 Single Pair Ethernet interfaces, with each interface using a dedicated network interface controller. This allows multiple sensor streams to be processed in parallel. Support for Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is intended to help maintain deterministic data handling for sensor-fusion and real-time control applications.

The system also provides eight GMSL2 camera inputs with Power over Coax, allowing multiple camera feeds to be brought directly into the edge computer. Combined with its high-performance Jetson platform, this enables applications such as simultaneous camera, LiDAR, and telemetry processing for autonomous navigation and machine perception.

Potential deployments include construction machinery, commercial vehicles, agricultural equipment, mining systems, autonomous mobile robots, and railway equipment. In these applications, the computer can act as a local AI hub, processing sensor data and generating results close to the point of operation.

The rugged design is aimed at continuous use in harsh environments. The RML A5AGX is specified for operation from -25°C to +60°C and carries IP67 and IP69 ingress protection ratings. This makes it suitable for vehicle-mounted and mobile machinery where exposure to dust, water, and demanding operating conditions is expected.
