STMicroelectronics’ Sustainability Event Highlights 2023

STMicroelectronics showcased 30 years of sustainability leadership in a virtual media event, highlighting its innovations, ethics, and plans for a greener tech world.

STMicroelectronics hosted a Sustainability Virtual Media Event on 21st September 2023. Jean-Louis CHAMPSEIX, Group Vice President and head of Corporate Sustainability presented the event and replied to various media questionnaires. Jean begins the event by talking about 30 years of sustainability at STMicroelectronics. He told us how sustainability has been engraved in their business model and culture for 30 years. He shed some light on how it started in 1987 with the creation of business conduct and ethics policy and evolved over the years. Jean added, “We are leading the industry regarding sustainability performance.”

The company’s long-term dedication is to develop technology that fosters a sustainable world, emphasising people and safeguarding the planet. Jean shared that ST is prepared to face challenges with its 30 years of experience, leading CSR performance, advanced sustainability process and governance. The company is committed to advancing smart mobility by aiding automotive manufacturers in improving driving safety and environmental sustainability. Industries are enabled to enhance energy efficiency through increased use of renewable energy. Smart IoT devices are supported with comprehensive product solutions and ecosystems.

ST have a vast range of product portfolios enabling strategic trends. ST have advanced R&D centres worldwide for close collaboration with operations, customers and partners. Jean also discussed the electric vehicle’s contribution to carbon-dioxide saving. He also shed some light on how washing machines, air conditioners, digital consumer power supply and electronic lighting solutions from ST save energy efficiency from 40% to 80%. “Solar power generation is a key contributor to sustainable energy,” added Jean. He also told us how sustainable ST technologies are helping in smart agriculture and medical testing. 

Jean talked about the event’s carbon product life cycle assessment and how carbon footprint and handprint are calculated. He shared examples of the carbon footprint and handprint of a MEMS, TOF sensor and SiC traction inverter. Jean added, “Our technology enables a more sustainable world by addressing new responsible applications and AI breakthroughs. We also act as role models in creating value for all stakeholders.”
