A Thermal Imaging camera is a tool that helps in analysing problems with electronic and electrical circuits, among other applications, without risking the life of the operator. Let’s look into the camera with Kalidas Bhangare, MD Testo India pvt. ltd.

Q) What are the points considered while designing a thermal image camera?kalidas bhangare

With our experience in designing and making professional measuring instruments we have a lot of feedback and needs of the users while designing any product. A thermal imager is not just a measuring tool but a predictive maintenance tool, and we understand the importance of a good thermal image and the implications on prediction because of a poor thermal image, hence at Testo we have given a lot of thought and asked for lots of feedback before designing a new thermal imager.

We give a lot of importance to user friendly interface & functions in our thermal imager that makes thermography an easy tool to predict problems before they cause damage to you and your company.

Q) What are some of the parameters defining a thermal camera?

Some of the important parameter that a good thermal imager should have are:Real thermography starts at 160 X 120 pixels

Image Resolution: A good thermal imager should have a good thermal image and this can be achieved only by using a good resolution sensor (detector); hence we bring in the same resolution detector with 160 x 120 resolution even in the lowest costing thermal cameras. Thus bringing in an uncompromising resolution even at a price that suits everyone’s pocket. We do not believe in reducing the price at the cost of the image for which a customer invests in an instrument.

Super Resolution: An innovative technology from Testo that gives you 4 times higher data points (resolution) of your detector size, so that you can do more data analysis. Additionally, increasing the IFOV of your imager allows you to see the smallest of a problem.  It is something worth seeing and understanding that this is not like a digital enhancement which many other people provide.

Focus: Sharper the image, easier is the analysis. Focusing is one of the keys to get a sharp image. Just beam at the object and shoot is a lucrative feature in focus free imagers. For better and professional approach we recommend the manual focus which gives a full control to the user for better analysis and for the professional and heavy duty users we recommend the combination of both in the instrument.

Larger Display size: Thermal imager having horizontal large screen of 3.5” makes it very easy for the user to see and analyze the image.

Digital camera: A high resolution digital image such as 3.1 MP can help you detect your actual point of problem and eliminate it.

Wider angle lens: With a wider angle lens you can cover larger area / objects from a shorter distance such that the user can be in a safe distance and not too far from the object so that he does not lose the image of the object and at the same time does not compromise on the temperature information. The lens selected should be so apt that it gives you the required information without losing the smallest data.
