Second-Generation Automotive Grade Inductor

The inductor model offers enhanced EMI performance, cost savings, and space efficiency for automotive, industrial, and renewable energy applications.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced an updated model in its IHLE series of low-profile, high-current inductors, which includes an integrated E-field shield. The new second-generation Automotive Grade device, housed in a 10 mm by 10 mm 4040 case, offers a shield design that improves upon previous versions and includes marked polarity for more consistent EMI performance. The Vishay Dale IHLE-4040DDEB-5A reduces costs and conserves board space by potentially eliminating the need for separate board-level Faraday shielding.

Electronics manufacturers benefit from this inductor in applications that involve power supply management, like switch mode power supplies, where its noise attenuation and high current handling capabilities are advantageous. Additionally, the inductor’s ability to withstand high temperatures and provide reliable EMI performance makes it suitable for industrial applications and renewable energy systems, particularly in solar and wind energy sectors where efficient power conversion and noise suppression are essential. Telecommunications equipment, which requires stable and reliable power management, is another area where this inductor finds use, ensuring system performance and durability.

This device incorporates integrated tin-plated copper shielding that confines electric and magnetic EMI fields. When grounded, the IHLE series achieves up to a 20 dB reduction in radiated noise interference and a further 6 dB decrease in magnetic flux leakage, minimizing crosstalk to adjacent board components. It supports continuous operation at temperatures up to +155 °C and features operating and isolation voltage ratings of 75 V and 100 V, respectively. It meets AEC-Q200 standards, making it suitable for filtering and DC/DC conversion tasks in automotive entertainment/navigation systems, LED drivers, and for noise suppression in motors, automotive domain control units (DCU), and other applications.

The inductor is enclosed in a magnetically shielded iron alloy encapsulant. Due to additional mounting support from its two shield terminals, it offers resistance to thermal shock, moisture, and mechanical shock. It is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and adheres to Vishay’s Green standards.
