Solving high efficiency and thermal challenges in vehicles, this solution delivers low loss switching, robust temperature performance, and compact packaging for modern EV designs.

As automotive electronics continue to shrink while handling higher power levels, designers are under pressure to improve efficiency, thermal performance, and reliability without increasing system size. Managing heat and conduction losses has become especially critical in modern automotive architectures.

To meet the needs, Diodes Incorporated has introduced its DXTN and DXTP 78Q and 80Q series. The NPN and PNP devices are designed to deliver ultra low saturation voltage, high current capability, and strong thermal performance for demanding automotive power switching and control applications.

The transistors support a broad voltage range and are suited for applications such as gate driving MOSFETs, IGBTs, power line and load switching. The devices can also be used in low dropout regulation, DC DC conversion, driving motors, solenoids, relays, and actuators. Rated for continuous operation up to 175°C and featuring high ESD robustness, the devices are designed for reliable operation in harsh automotive environments.

Housed in the compact PowerDI 3333 8 package, the devices reduce PCB footprint by up to 75 percent compared to the traditional SOT223 packages. A large underside heatsink enables a very low thermal resistance, while the side wall plateable design improves inspection visibility and strengthens solder joints which leads to support efficiency and consistent manufacturing.

Key features include:

  • Ultra low VCE saturation voltage as low as 17 mV at 1 A
  • On state resistance down to 12 milliohms
  • BVCEO ratings from 30 V to 100 V
  • Continuous current up to 10 A with high peak pulse capability
  • Reliable operation up to 175°C

By combining ultra low conduction losses with compact packaging and automotive grade robustness, the new transistor series helps designers increase power density, simplify thermal management, and build more efficient and reliable automotive systems.
