The UPS / PDU Testing Engineer is responsible for testing, validating, and ensuring the performance, safety, and reliability of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems. This role involves conducting factory, site, and acceptance testing in accordance with international standards and customer specifications. The person to work with Project and site teams.
Testing & Validation
- Perform routine, type, and special tests on UPS / PDU systems (offline, line‑interactive, online/double‑conversion).
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) as per approved test scripts
- Input/output voltage, current, and frequency
- Hi pot and G bond test
- No load and Load regulation and voltage stability test
- Efficiency and power factor
- Block load test
- Power module live swap test
- Burn in test
- Short circuit test
- Harmonic distortion (THDi / THDv)
- Overload and short‑circuit behaviour 25% to 125% load
- Transfer time and backup time
- Experience in using Lab measuring equipments
- Customer and consultant coordination
Battery & Backup Testing
- Perform battery discharge tests with various loads
- Ensure testing complies with applicable standards such as:
- IEC 62040
- IEEE, IS, UL, or customer‑specified standards
- Verify electrical safety, earthing, insulation resistance, and protection logic.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare detailed test reports, test certificates, and inspection records.
- Document non‑conformances and support root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain test records and calibration data for testing instruments.
Troubleshooting & Support
- Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot UPS failures during testing.
- Coordinate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve issues.
- Support commissioning and start‑up activities at customer sites when required.
Continuous Improvement
- Support development and improvement of test procedures and test setups.
- Suggest improvements for test automation, reliability, and efficiency.
- Follow safety procedures and promote a zero‑incident testing environment.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Electrical / Power Electronics / Electronics Engineering
Experience:
- 2–6 years of experience in UPS testing, power electronics testing, or electrical system testing
- Exposure to medium or high‑capacity UPS systems (e.g., 10 kVA to MW range) is preferred
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of:
- PDU/UPS topologies and control logic
- Power electronics (IGBTs, rectifiers, inverters)
- Batteries and energy storage systems
- Proficient in using test equipment:
- Power analysers
- Oscilloscopes
- Load banks
- Multimeter and insulation testers
- Understanding of electrical drawings, single‑line diagrams, and schematics
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Good documentation and report‑writing ability
- Effective communication with internal teams and customers
- Ability to work independently and under testing deadlines
Working Conditions
- Factory and/or site‑based testing environments
- Exposure to high‑power electrical equipment; strict adherence to safety norms required
Preferred / Added Advantages
- Experience with data centre UPS / PDU systems
- Familiarity with (Modbus, SNMP)
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems
