A PFAS-free liner for magnetic flow meters helps reduce wear, handle abrasive materials, lower costs, simplify inventory management, and extend flow meter life.

Emerson has introduced a new PEX liner option for its Rosemount 8750W Magnetic Flow Meter, Rosemount 8705 Flanged Magnetic Flow Meter, and Rosemount MS Magnetic Flow Meter sensors. The new liner is designed for water, wastewater, slurry, and other abrasive applications, providing a PFAS-free alternative that can help extend flow meter life, reduce costs, and simplify inventory management.
The PEX liner is available for line sizes up to 8 inches, with larger sizes currently under development. It is designed to improve performance in applications where chemical exposure and abrasive materials can shorten the lifespan of traditional liner materials.
Many existing liner options can wear down when exposed to chemicals or abrasive slurries. As they degrade, they may require more maintenance and replacement. Some liner materials can also create inventory challenges because different applications often require different liner types. In addition, certain liners can be costly to purchase and maintain, particularly when installation delays or reinstallation issues lead to liner flaring.
To address these challenges, Emerson has added the PEX liner option to its Rosemount magnetic flow meter portfolio. The liner is formulated without per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), helping users respond to growing regulatory and environmental concerns related to these materials.
The crosslinked molecular structure of the PEX liner provides resistance to abrasion, making it suitable for wastewater systems, slurry handling, and other processes involving suspended solids. By reducing liner wear, the material can help extend the service life of flow meters operating in demanding conditions.
The use of a single PFAS-free liner material can also simplify material selection and stocking requirements compared with fluoropolymer-based alternatives that may vary depending on the application. Along with improved durability, the PEX liner is typically less expensive than many alternative liner materials, helping reduce overall ownership costs.
With the addition of the new PEX liner, users can address durability, compliance, and inventory concerns while continuing to use the same magnetic flow measurement technology.
