Smart Ring Advances Wearable Intelligence 

Can a smart ring recommend what to do next? A software update brings on-device AI, improved fitness analytics and personalised health guidance.

Ultrahuman has introduced the Emerald Update for its smart ring platform, adding an AI-powered decision engine, on-device health analysis and upgraded fitness algorithms.

The update is centred around UltraSphere, a wearable decision engine that converts physiological data into personalised recommendations. Working with the company’s Jade AI platform, UltraSphere analyses metrics including sleep, heart rate variability (HRV), stress, skin temperature, movement and recovery to generate more than 60 context-aware actions. The recommendations also consider factors such as weather, location, circadian rhythm and user profiles, including athletes, shift workers and frequent travellers.

A key technical enhancement is the shift to on-device processing. Health insights, live metrics and recommendations are now processed directly on the smart ring, allowing users to access features even without internet connectivity. According to the company, this enables continuous monitoring during travel or in remote locations while reducing dependence on cloud-based processing.

The update also introduces improved workout analysis with enhanced automatic activity detection and heart-rate algorithms validated against reference devices across different activity types. In addition, the VO₂ Max estimation algorithm has been refined and validated against cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) in a study involving more than 100 participants. Ultrahuman claims the updated model improves estimation accuracy by 21% and delivers results within 5 mL/kg/min of laboratory measurements.

The platform also adds new health monitoring features, including a dedicated Sleep Screener, a Longevity dashboard, real-time activity monitoring and expanded support for third-party devices such as Apple Watch, Garmin wearables, chest straps and AirPods for workout tracking.
